Collaborative Performance Program
This revised program, originally known as the Collaborative Piano Program, aimed to develop collaborative techniques in intermediate and advanced pianists through coaching sessions within the public schools. We are delighted to announce that the program has grown, and now includes coaching sessions for string, brass, and wind instruments along with piano. Participating students acquire skills to respectfully work with peers and adults in various musical settings such as choirs, performances, theater productions and more.
These techniques include efficient sight-reading, non-verbal communication, rehearsal preparation and open score reading. The program coordinates performing opportunities for students within their schools and music community. It broadens musical development, enhances collaboration skills beyond music, and fosters awareness, clear communication, time management and accountability.
Collaborative performance activities include:
- Partnerships with Kalamazoo Public Schools and the Kalamazoo Area Music Teachers Association
- New administrative addition of the Kalamazoo Chamber Music Workshop
- Development of Mattawan Consolidated Schools Independent Study in Collaborative Piano program
- Connecting middle and high school pianists with instrumentalists and choirs for community performances
- Arranging student pianists to assist in choir rehearsals and performances in their respective schools
- Providing collaborative piano coaching sessions to local students at no charge to families or schools
