No Fontana Summer Festival would be complete without a tribute to our Founder, Neill Sanders.
In what can only be described as a special treat, Paul Nitsch returns to Kalamazoo to perform once again in the Fontana Summer Festival line-up!
Currently a piano professor at Queens University of Charlotte (NC), Nitsch served as Fontana’s Artistic Director until 2001, when Fontana merged with the Chamber Music Society of Kalamazoo.
Joining him are five rising stars of the musical world – young hornist Adedji Bailes Ogunfolu and the Cleveland-based Omer Quartet.
Adedeji Bailes Ogunfolu was named a fellow in the Pittsburgh Symphony EQT Orchestra Training Program for African American Musicians in 2013.
The Omer Quartet was the grand prize winner and the senior string division winner at the 2013 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in South Bend, IN. As part of their prize they will perform at Italy’s Emilia Romagna Festival this year!
More about Neill
British hornist Neill Sanders, a founding member of the Melos Ensemble of London and frequent performer with the London Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra and more, came to Kalamazoo in 1970 as professor of horn at Western Michigan.
Neill started Fontana in 1980, and was Executive and Artistic Director of the Society until his death in 1992, when pianist Paul Nitsch was named Artistic Director.
Good friends, old and new, join Fontana as we look back and thank our Founder for all the beautiful music. Join us!
