Thursdays in the Park – Live!
Multiple dates throughout the summer – 6:00 pm
Summer 2016 sees the return – and expansion – of the ever popular Thursdays in the Park series! In collaboration with the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo and the City of Kalamazoo, Fontana will present five concerts in Bronson Park that will leave audiences swinging and swaying along with the melodies and rhythms of this diverse group of artists.
The Thursdays in the Park concerts begin at 6:00 pm and are FREE and open to the public! A beer tent for those 21 and older will be sponsored by the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo.
June 23: Star Rover
Star Rover’s original compositions use Will Graefe’s guitar playing as a launching point for interstellar explorations. Jeremy Gustin’s languid drumming is full of song-like melodies. These instruments separate and recombine, lead and accompany, and alternately push and pull the time with incredible variety.
July 14: Diego Figueiredo with Chiara Izzi
An extraordinary fast rising star among the world’s greatest jazz guitarists, Diego Figueiredo is a virtuoso with an infectious, joyful feeling that will leave you amazed and happy. Joining him will be award-winning Italian singer/songwriter Chiara Izzi.
July 28: Julien Labro Quartet
Heralded as “the next accordion star” by Howard Reich of the Chicago Tribune, Julien Labro has established himself as one of the foremost accordion and bandoneón players in both the classical and jazz genres.
August 4: Honey Ear
Honey Ear creatively fuses the acoustic sound of a traditional saxophone trio with modern electronics. The trio also explores mixing multiple genres (jazz, rock, soul, folk) while bending, stretching, and decompressing the rhythmic and harmonic characteristics of the music.
August 18: Caesar
Caesar’s voice is a direct link to the Golden age of true vocal artistry, he possesses the rare ability to sing in multiple languages and go from singing unplugged to swinging with a big band.
